바이낸스 CEO "암호화폐 겨울 아직 끝나지 않았다"

 

세계 최대 암호화폐 거래소 바이낸스의 창펑자오 최고경영자(CEO)가 최근 바이낸스의 상황과 내년도 시장 전망에 대해 견해를 밝혔다. 바이낸스는 차츰 안정화가 되고 있지만 시장 전체 상황은 여전히 위기 상황이라는 판단이다.
창펑자오 바이낸스 CEO는 2022년 12월 14일 자신의 트위터를 통해 "상황이 안정화되고 있다. 일시적인 출금 중단 건은 해소됐고 자금도 다시 들어오고 있다. 우리는 FTX와 다르다"고 말했다. 이같은 언급은 전날 바이낸스의 USDC 스테이블코인 인출 일시 중단 조치 직후 나온 것이다. 샘 뱅크먼 프라이드 FTX 창업자가 바하마에서 체포된 것을 전후해 미국 규제 당국이 바이낸스에 대한 강도높은 조사를 진행하고 있다는 소식이 알려지면서 일시적인 뱅크런 상황이 발생한 것으로 파악된다. 인출 중단 상황은 약 8시간 동안 지속됐고 이후 해소됐다. 창펑자오 CEO는 바이낸스 내부 공지를 통해 "암호화폐 겨울은 아직 끝나지 않았다. 앞으로 몇 달은 험난한 시기가 될 것"이라며 "그러나 어려움을 겪은 만큼 더 강해질 것"이라고 강조했다. 관련해 블록체인 분석 기업인 난센(Nansen)은 지난 일주일간 바이낸스에서 약 30억달러 상당의 자산 인출건이 발생한 것으로 추정했다. 난센에 따르면 바이낸스 거래소가 동원할 수 있는 유동성 자산은 약 600억달러 상당이다.
반면 일부 분석가들은 바이낸스가 갑작스런 뱅크런 상황을 견딜 수 있을 만큼 충분한 자산이나 담보가 있음을 증명하지 못하고 있다고 지적했다. 창펑자오 CEO는 바이낸스가 자산 준비금을 1:1로 보유하고 있다고 주장하고 있지만 구체적으로 이를 밝힌 바는 없다.

Binance is gradually stabilizing, but the overall market situation is still in a crisis. "The situation is stabilizing," Binance CEO Chang Feng Zhao tweeted on December 14, 2022. The temporary suspension of withdrawal has been resolved and funds are coming back in. We are different from FTX. The comment came shortly after Binance's temporary suspension of withdrawal of USDC stable coins the previous day. A temporary bank run situation is believed to have occurred as news broke out that U.S. regulators are conducting an intensive investigation into Binance around the arrest of FTX founder Sam Bankman in the Bahamas. The withdrawal suspension lasted about eight hours and was resolved afterwards. CEO Chang Feng-jiao said in an internal announcement from Binance, "The cryptocurrency winter is not over yet. The next few months will be a tough time, he said. "But it will be stronger as much as it has been difficult." In a related development, Nansen, a blockchain analysis company, estimated that about $3 billion worth of asset withdrawals have occurred in Binance over the past week. According to Nansen, the liquidity assets that the Binance Exchange can mobilize are worth about $60 billion.
On the other hand, some analysts pointed out that Binance does not prove that it has enough assets or collateral to withstand a sudden bank run. CEO Chang Feng Zhao claims that Binance holds asset reserves at a 1:1 ratio, but he has not revealed this in detail.
