가상화폐 대장주 비트코인이 인플레이션 둔화 기대감에 단숨에 2만 달러를 회복했다. 2023년 1월 14일 미 가상화폐 거래소 코인베이스에 따르면 미 동부 기준 이날 오후 1시 7분 현재 비트코인 1개당 가격은 전날보다 8.48% 급등한 2만782달러(2천581만 원)에 거래됐다. 상승 폭이 다소 줄어들긴 했지만 비트코인은 장중 한때 2만1천299달러(2천645만 원)까지 치솟으며 2만1천 달러를 넘기도 했다. 비트코인이 2만 달러를 넘어선 것은 가상화폐 거래소 FTX의 유동성 위기 소식이 전해진 지난해 11월 8일 이후 2개월여만이다. 11일 연속 상승으로 올해 들어서만 25% 이상 올랐다. 같은 시간 이더리움도 8.04% 오른 1천530달러(190만 원) 안팎에 거래되는 등 가상화폐 대부분이 일제히 상승 모드를 이어갔다. 가상화폐 정보 매체 코인게코에 따르면 가상화폐 전체 시가총액도 지난해 11월 이후 1조 달러(1천242조 원)를 넘어섰다. 가상화폐의 상승은 미국 물가 상승 둔화가 연방준비제도(Fed·연준)의 기준금리 인상 속도 조절로 이어지고 FTX 사태가 어느 정도 진정돼 가고 있다는 기대감 때문이라는 분석이다. 소셜트레이딩 플랫폼 알파임팩트의 헤이든 휴즈 최고경영자(CEO)는 "물가지수 하락에 FTX 청산인들이 유동자산 50억 달러를 회수했다는 발표가 호재로 작용하고 있다"며 "시장은 다음 달 연방공개시장위원회(FOMC) 회의를 앞두고 많은 긍정적인 모멘텀을 가져가고 있다"고 말했다. 그러나 최근 랠리에 따른 추격 매수에 대해서는 신중한 반응도 나온다. 시장 조사업체 페어리드 스트래티지스의 공동창업자 케이티 스턴턴은 "비트코인이 1년 만에 200일 이동평균선을 넘었다"며 "현재 과매수가 몰린 상황에서 우리는 랠리를 쫓지는 않을 것"이라고 말했다.

Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency market leader, recovered USD 20,000 at once on expectations of slowing inflation. According to the U.S. cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase on January 14, 2023, as of 1:07 p.m. on the same day, the price per bitcoin was traded at USD 27,782 (KRW 25.81 million), up 8.48% from the previous day. Although the increase was somewhat reduced, Bitcoin soared to USD 21,299 (KRW 26.45 million) at one point during the day, exceeding USD 21,000. It is the first time in more than two months that Bitcoin has exceeded USD 20,000 since November 8 last year when the news of the liquidity crisis of the virtual currency exchange FTX was reported. It has risen more than 25% this year alone, rising for 11 consecutive days.
At the same time, Ethereum also rose 8.04% to around USD 1,530 (KRW 1.9 million), and most of the virtual currencies continued to rise. According to Coingeco, a virtual currency information media, the total market capitalization of virtual currency has also exceeded USD 1 trillion (KRW 1,242 trillion) since November last year. Analysts say that the rise in virtual currency is due to expectations that the slowdown in U.S. inflation will lead to the Federal Reserve's (Fed) pace of interest rate hikes and that the FTX crisis is calming down to some extent.
Hayden Hughes, chief executive officer (CEO) of social trading platform Alpime Fact, said, "The announcement that FTX liquidators have recovered $5 billion in liquid assets is a boon to the falling price index. The market is taking a lot of positive momentum ahead of next month's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting." However, there is also a cautious response to the recent rally's chase buying. "Bitcoin has crossed the 200-day moving average in a year," said Katie Staunton, co-founder of market research firm Fairid Strategies. "We will not chase the rally at a time when overbuying is currently high."
