<가상화폐 시장 내 잠자는 비트코인 ‘80조 원’ 규모>

 

지난 2013년부터 현재까지 10년 동안 200만 개 이상의 비트코인이 비활성화 상태로 남아있다는 업계의 분석이 나왔다.

가상화폐 시장 분석가인 윌 클레만테(Will Clemente)는 2023년 2월 28일(현지시간) 블록체인 정보 제공업체인 글래스노드(Glassnode)의 자료를 인용해 260만 개 이상의 최근 10년간 어떠한 움직임을 보이지 않았다고 전했다. 260만 개 비트코인이 가지는 금액적 가치는 607억 5천만 달러(한화 약 79조 5,825억 원)로 알려졌다. 윌 클레만테 분석가는 최근 10년 동안 비활성화 상태로 남은 비트코인이 현재 전체 거래소에 나와있는 양보다 더 많다고 덧붙였다. 블록체인 정보 제공업체인 체이널리시스(Chainalysis)는 지난 2020년 6월을 기준으로 전체 발행된 비트코인의 20%가 유실됐다는 분석을 내놓기도 했다. 체이널리시스가 당시 추정한 유실 비트코인 수는 약 370만 개에 달했다. 반면 거래소를 통해 유출 및 유입되는 비트코인 개수는 약 350만 개로 파악됐다.  체이널리시스는 “거래소 간에 빈번하게 이동하는 비트코인은 전체 채굴량의 19% 정도를 차지하는 350만 개다”라며 “거래에 사용되는 350만 개 비트코인이 시장의 공급과 수요 수준에 상호작용해 가격을 결정한다”라고 말했다. 당시를 기준으로 채굴이 완료된 비트코인은 총 1,860만 개 규모로 확인됐다. 2023년 3월 2일 현재 채굴된 비트코인 총량은 가상화폐 정보 제공 웹사이트인 코인마켓캡(Coinmarketcap) 기준 1,930만 개다.  한편 국내 가상화폐 거래소인 빗썸은 지난달 자체 보고서를 통해 최근 비트코인 시장 내 단기 차익실현 매물이 쏟아지며 긍정적인 손바뀜 현상이 일어났다고 밝혔다. 비트코인 시세가 상승함에 따라 시장에서는 지난 2023년 2월 3주 차에 단기 차익실현 매물이 쏟아졌으나 장기투자자들이 물량을 받아내며 2만 4천 달러(한화 3,179만 원) 선을 유지했다는 게 빗썸의 설명이었다. 빗썸은 제로(0) 이상의 잔고를 가진 비트코인 주소 수가 4,380만 개를 돌파하며 지난해 11월 중순 4,376만 개의 역대 최대치를 넘어섰다고 짚기도 했다. 가상화폐 시장 활력 증가로 비트코인 보유 손바뀜이 일어나는 현재 시세 반등이 비활성화된 비트코인의 증가 추이에도 영향을 미칠지 귀추가 주목된다.

More than 2 million bitcoins remain inactive over the past 10 years from 2013 to the present, according to an industry analysis. Cryptocurrency market analyst Will Clemente quoted blockchain information provider Glassnode as saying on February 28, 2023 (local time) that more than 2.6 million have not moved in the last decade. The value of 2.6 million Bitcoin is known to be USD 60.75 billion (about KRW 79.5825 trillion). Analyst Will Clemente added that the amount of Bitcoin left inactive in the last decade is more than the amount currently on the entire exchange. Chainalysis, a blockchain information provider, also analyzed that 20% of all Bitcoin issued as of June 2020 has been lost. The number of lost bitcoins estimated by Chainlessis at the time reached about 3.7 million. On the other hand, the number of bitcoins leaked and flowed through the exchange was estimated to be about 3.5 million. Chainless said, "There are 3.5 million bitcoins that frequently move between exchanges, accounting for about 19% of the total mining volume," adding, "3.5 million bitcoins used in transactions interact with the level of supply and demand in the market to determine prices." As of that time, a total of 18.6 million Bitcoin were confirmed to have been mined. As of March 2, 2023, the total amount of Bitcoin mined is 19.3 million based on Coinmarketcap, a website that provides virtual currency information. Meanwhile, Bithumb, a domestic virtual currency exchange, said in its own report last month that a positive change of hands occurred due to the recent influx of short-term profit-taking sales in the Bitcoin market. Bithumb explained that short-term profit-taking sales poured out in the market in the third week of February 2023 as bitcoin prices rose, but long-term investors received supplies and maintained the USD 24,000 (KRW 31.79 million) level. Bithumb also pointed out that the number of Bitcoin addresses with a balance of more than zero exceeded 43.8 million, exceeding an all-time high of 43.76 million in mid-November last year. Attention is focusing on whether the current market rebound, which changes hands on holding Bitcoin due to increased vitality in the virtual currency market, will also affect the growth trend of inactive Bitcoin.
