비트코인이 최고점 대비 20% 가량 하락하며 연일 약세를 보이고 있지만 가상자산 시장에서는 긍정적인 소식이 하나 전해졌다. 바로 유럽 최대규모 은행인 BNP파리바가 블랙록의 비트코인 현물 상장지수펀드(ETF)에 투자했다는 사실이다. 이 같은 소식은 13F 공시를 통해 공개됐다. 2024년 5월 2일 가상자산 전문 미디어 비트코인 매거진은 X를 통해 “유럽에서 두 번째로 큰 은행으로 알려진 BNP 파리바는 13F 서류를 통해 비트코인 ETF 투자 노출이 있다”고 밝혔다. 13F는 1억 달러 이상 운용하는 미국 금융기관은 1분기 증권 보유내역을 5월 15일까지 미 증권거래위원회(SEC)에 제출해야하는 문서다. 이 문서는 대중에게도 공개가 되는데, 기관투자자들이 신규로 매수한 종목과 매도한 종목 등 모든 포지션이 공개된다.

 

그런 의미에서 BNP파리바의 이번 소식은 의미가 깊다. 다만 BNP 파리바는 블랙록의 비트코인 현물 ETF인 IBIT를 고작 1030주를 보유하고 있다. 이는 4만1684달러 규모로 파리바의 명성에 비하면 매우 작은 규모다. 사실 투자 이해도가 높은 일부 투자자들은 지난 2024년 1월 12일 비트코인 현물 ETF가 승인 된 이후 첫 13F 공시가 공개될 것을 기대해왔다. BNP파리바는 시작에 불과하다. 앞으로 다양한 기관투자자들이 비트코인 현물 ETF에 대한 익스포져가 있음을 공개할 것으로 보인다.

Bitcoin has been weakening day after day, falling about 20 percent from its peak, but one positive news has been reported in the virtual asset market. It is the fact that BNP Paribas, the largest bank in Europe, has invested in BlackRock's Bitcoin Spot Index Fund (ETF). The news was made public through the 13F disclosure. On May 2, 2024, the virtual asset media Bitcoin magazine said through X, "BNP Paribas, known as the second largest bank in Europe, is exposed to investments in Bitcoin ETFs through the 13F document." 13F is a document that requires U.S. financial institutions that operate more than $100 million to submit their first-quarter securities holdings to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by May 15. The document will be open to the public, and all positions, including newly purchased and sold items by institutional investors, will be disclosed.

 

In that sense, the news of BNP Paribas is meaningful. However, BNP Paribas holds only 1,030 shares of IBIT, BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF. This is $41,684 dollars, which is very small compared to Paribas' reputation. In fact, some investors with a high understanding of investment have expected the first 13F disclosure to be disclosed since the Bitcoin spot ETF was approved on January 12, 2024. BNP Paribas is only the beginning. In the future, various institutional investors are expected to disclose their exposure to Bitcoin spot ETFs.
