최근 브라질에서 솔라나 ETF가 승인되면서 미국에서도 승인이 불가피 할 것이라고 보도했다. 미국에서 비트코인과 이더리움의 현물 ETF가 승인된 이후 여러 자산 운용사들이 솔라나(Solana)를 다음 목표로 삼아 현물 ETF를 신청한 상태다. 브라질은 암호화폐 ETF 분야에서 선두주자로 떠오르고 있지만, 미국은 전통적인 금융 강국임에도 불구하고 암호화폐 규제에 있어 더 신중한 태도를 보이고 있다. 미국 증권거래위원회(SEC)는 복잡한 암호화폐 규제 문제를 해결하는 과정에서 여전히 어려움을 겪고 있다. 10x 리서치의 창립자인 마커스 틸렌은 디크립트와 인터뷰에서 미국 내 솔라나 ETF 출시에 대한 상당한 진전이 있었지만, 승인 시기는 여전히 불확실하다고 전했다.

 

주요 자산 운용사들이 SEC에 신청서를 제출했지만 이는 곧바로 승인을 의미하지는 않는다고 언급했다. 틸렌은 “승인 절차는 복잡하다”며 “솔라나 같은 암호화폐가 증권으로 분류될 가능성이 있는 만큼 SEC의 규제 입장은 추가적인 도전을 가져올 수 있다”고 말했다. 또한 비트코인과 이더리움 ETF 승인의 핵심 역할을 한 선물 시장이 솔라나에 없다는 점은 승인 과정을 더욱 복잡하게 만들고 지연시킬 수 있다고 덧붙였다. 그럼에도 불구하고 브라질의 승인은 미국에서도 유사한 움직임이 나타날 것이라는 기대를 불러일으켰다. 반에크의 디지털 자산 연구 책임자인 매튜 시겔은 브라질이 디지털 자산 분야에서 오랫동안 선도적인 역할을 해왔다며, 미국에서도 솔라나 ETF 승인이 불가피할 것이라고 전망했다. 솔라나는 최근 몇 년간 비트코인이나 이더리움보다 훨씬 큰 가격 변동성을 보여왔다. 2021년 최고가 약 260달러에서 FTX 거래소의 붕괴 이후 2022년 말 약 8달러로 급락했다. 현재는 약 153달러로 회복된 상태다. 그러나 최근에도 일주일 만에 30% 폭락하는 등 여전히 높은 변동성을 보이고 있다.

With the recent approval of Solana ETFs in Brazil, it was reported that approval would be inevitable in the U.S. After Bitcoin and Ethereum's spot ETFs were approved in the U.S., several asset managers have applied for spot ETFs with Solana as their next target. Brazil is emerging as a leader in cryptocurrency ETFs, but the U.S. is more cautious in regulating cryptocurrencies despite being a traditional financial powerhouse. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is still struggling in the process of solving complex cryptocurrency regulatory issues. Marcus Tillen, founder of 10x Research, told Decrypt that while significant progress has been made on the launch of Solana ETFs in the U.S., the timing of approval remains uncertain.

 

It noted that major asset managers have submitted their applications to the SEC, but this does not immediately mean approval. "The approval process is complicated," Thielen said, adding that the SEC's regulatory position could bring additional challenges as cryptocurrencies like Solana are likely to be classified as securities. It also added that Solana's absence of the futures market, which played a key role in approving Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, could further complicate and delay the approval process. Nevertheless, the Brazilian approval has raised expectations that a similar move will be seen in the United States. Matthew Siegel, head of digital assets research at VanEck, said Brazil has long been a leader in digital assets, predicting that approval of Solana ETFs will be inevitable in the United States as well. Solana has seen much greater price volatility in recent years than Bitcoin or Ethereum. It has plummeted from a peak of about $260 in 2021 to about $8 at the end of 2022 following the collapse of the FTX exchange. It has now recovered to about $153. However, it is still showing high volatility recently, plunging 30% in a week.
