김치코인 위믹스가 최근 블록체인 서비스를 잇달아 중단했음에도 하루 만에 50% 넘게 급등했다. 비트코인과 같이 공급량을 절반으로 줄이는 반감기를 도입한다고 예고하면서다. 2024년 6월 27일 빗썸에 따르면 위믹스는 지난 25일 1300원대 거래되다 하루 만인 26일 2136원까지 치솟았다. 54.6% 증가한 수치다. 비트코인의 주요 정책으로 알려진 반감기는 공급량이 절반으로 준다는 점에서 대표적인 가격 부양책으로 꼽힌다. 큰 매도 압력 없이 수요가 동일한 상태에서 공급이 준다면 가격 상승은 당연한 일이기 때문이다. 위믹스 팀은 지난 2024년 6월 25일 공식 블로그를 통해 "오는 7월 1일 토큰 경제 시스템을 전면 재편하는 '브리오슈 하드포크'에 나선다"고 밝혔다. 하드포크는 블록체인 네트워크가 두 갈래로 분리되는 방식으로 일종의 기술 업그레이드다.

 

브리오슈 하드포크의 핵심은 반감기 도입이다. 비트코인과 달리 위믹스는 2년에 한 번씩 반감기를 적용한다. 기존 백서에 따르면 위믹스는 블록 생성에 대한 보상으로 블록당 위믹스 코인 1개씩 발행했다. 하루에 8만6400개, 1년이면 3153만6000개가 새로 발행되는 구조다. 반감기가 도입되면 새로 발행되는 양은 절반으로 준다. 다음 달 1일을 기준으로 연간 약 1500만개 수준으로 발행량이 주는 셈이다. 이와 함께 기존에 보유한 위믹스도 대량 소각한다. 위믹스 팀은 이번 하드포크 이후 재단 리저브 물량 중 약 4억3500만개를 소각할 예정이다. 위믹스 팀은 이번 변화로 코인 가치를 높이겠다는 목표다. 비트코인과 마찬가지로 총 발행량이 정해진 위믹스의 공급량을 줄여서 수급 효과를 노리겠다는 설명이다. 당초 위믹스 총 발행량은 9억8000만개였다. 이번 반감기로 줄어드는 공급량은 5억8800만개로 확정됐다. 약 60% 축소된 수준이다.

나아가 새로운 서비스를 통해 위믹스 사용처도 확대할 방침이다. 최근 미르M 글로벌판, 우나월렛 등 블록체인 관련 서비스들을 접었던 만큼, 새 서비스인 '위믹스 플레이'에 집중해 위믹스 수요를 늘리겠다는 전략이다. 위믹스 팀은 "단순히 한정된 수량으로 가치 제고를 할 뿐 아니라 위믹스의 새로운 사용처를 확대해 건강한 생태계를 만들 것"이라고 밝혔다. 한편 위믹스 급등에 따라 일부 김치코인들이 동반 상승하기도 했다. 위믹스가 김치코인 대장주로 꼽히는 만큼 관련 종목들도 함께 들썩인 것으로 보인다.

The structure is such that 86,400 new coins are issued per day, or 31,536,000 coins per year. When the halving period is introduced, the amount of new issuance is halved. As of the 1st of next month, the annual issuance volume is approximately 15 million. In addition, a large amount of existing Wemix will be incinerated. The Wemix team plans to incinerate approximately 435 million of the foundation's reserve after this hard fork. The Wemix team's goal is to increase the coin value through this change.
