미국과 독일 정부는 비트코인을 매도하고 있는 반면 과거 화폐가치 급락으로 비트코인을 법정화폐로 채택한 엘살바도르는 물량을 꾸준히 늘리고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 미국과 독일의 부채&재정 압박이 비트코인 매도와 무관치 않다는 분석도 제기됐다. 2024년 7월 6일 가상자산 업계에 따르면 정부 차원에서 비트코인을 갖고 있는 특정 국가에서 비트코인 매도하는 움직임이 두드러지고 있다. 미국에 이어 독일까지 비트코인을 현금화하고 있다. 미국은 2014년부터 10년간 19만5091 BTC을 매도한 것으로 알려졌다. 미국에 이어 독일도 비트코인을 매도하고 있다. 독일은 그동안 범죄 수사, 자산 몰수, 세금 집행 조치 등으로 비트코인을 압류했다. 독일 정부는 지난달 2024년 6월 19일부터 지금까지 7828 BTC를 매도한 것으로 알려졌다.

 

독일도 미국과 유사한 재정 적자 문제를 겪고 있다. 코로나19 팬데믹 동안 독일 정부는 경제를 안정시키기 위해 대규모 경기 부양 정책을 실시했다. 또 러시아와의 관계 악화로 에너지 공급이 불안정해졌고 에너지 가격 상승과 수입 비용 증가는 재정 부담을 가중시켰다. 각종 글로벌 경제 둔화와 무역 긴장 등 외부 요인들로 인해 적자가 확대된 것이다. 반면 엘살바도르는 꾸준히 비트코인을 매수하고 있다. 비트인포차트 데이터에 따르면 엘살바도르 정부로 추정되는 주소는 비트코인 하락세에도 매일 1 BTC를 꾸준히 매집하고 있다. 비트코인 보유량은 5779개로 집계됐다. 엘살바도르는 2021년 9월 세계 최초로 비트코인을 법정통화로 인정하고 매입했다. 자국 화폐 '콜론'을 사용했지만 인플레이션으로 인해 2001년부터 미국 달러를 법정화폐로 채택했다. 다만 엘살바도르의 경제와 금융 시스템이 미국 정책에 좌우되면서 경제 주권을 행사할 수 없게 되자 비트코인을 법정통화로 지정하고 적극적으로 매수하고 있는 것이다.
